Forever Inscribed in Russia’s History: Putin Pays Tribute to Late Chechnya Leader Akhmat Kadyrov

Russian President Vladimir Putin and the head of the Chechen Republic, Akhmat Kadyrov

Decisive actions by Akhmat Kadyrov helped end years of conflict and restore stability to the North Caucasus, said Russia’s President Vladimir Putin on the 75th birth anniversary of Chechnya’s first president and Hero of Russia.Vladimir Putin highlighted Akhmat Kadyrov’s strength of spirit and selfless love for his people — pivotal to unifying Chechen society in the 1990s. “At the most critical moment, when society was divided and fractured and the republic effectively lay in ruins, Akhmat-Hadji assumed colossal responsibility,” said Putin.Kadyrov’s position was unequivocal: “the fate of Chechnya is inseparable from the fate of Russia,” the Russian leader noted. His goal was not merely to end the fratricidal conflict, but to erect a reliable barrier against the aggression of international terrorism, “fostered and encouraged from abroad by the enemies of Russia’s multi-ethnic people.”
